Alor Setar – The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani gained audience with the Raja Muda of Kedah Darul Aman, His Royal Highness DYTM Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Ibni Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin at the Anak Bukit Palace, yesterday afternoon.
The aim of the royal audience was to apprise His Royal Highness on the establishment of the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Wakaf and Endowment Management Centre in view of the fact that an alternative funding source such as it has been widely used in local universities both locally and abroad.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the paper work for the establishment of the project was tabled at the Kedah Islamic Religious Council Meeting in January 2017 and several discussions have followed through since then.
He expressed hope that His Royal Highness DYTM Tuanku Raja Muda of Kedah Darul Aman, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of UUM, would see that UUM's wish of establishing the Centre is for the benefit of all students, staff and the university, as well as to strengthen the economy and finance of the University through the Islamic economic system, i.e. the wakaf.
In addition, the Vice-Chancellor also extended a royal invitation to His Royal Highness for a visit to the Sintok campus in conjunction with His Royal Highness DYTM Raja Muda of Kedah’s birthday on 2 March.
